Support & FAQ

Answers without the runaround.

Straight answers about the KINCLUTCH app, Gift Help, subscriptions, retailers, privacy and data controls.

Getting started

How do I add someone?

Open People and choose manual entry, or browse Contacts and select a person yourself. A name plus the month and day of the birthday are enough to begin. Birth year, relationship, interests, dislikes and private notes can be added when you know them. Adding a person never starts Gift Help or spends AI Credits.

What if I do not know the birth year?

Enter the month and day and KINCLUTCH can still organize the birthday every year. Age-dependent profile and questionnaire rules remain unavailable until you add a birth year. The app does not invent a year or present a guessed age as fact. You can add the year later without recreating the person.

Does Contacts access import everyone?

No. Contacts permission lets you browse possible people on your device, but it does not copy the address book into KINCLUTCH. Only people you deliberately select are imported, and selecting them does not start AI research.

Person profiles and memory

What can KINCLUTCH remember about a person?

A profile can hold interests, dislikes, favorites, routine, household context, gift norms, expertise, style and fit, values, practical needs, wish-list clues and past-gift feedback. Those details are optional, and private organizer notes remain separate from AI and questionnaires. Profile updates create versions so an older result still has the context that produced it. Only details you choose as research-eligible shape a live Gift Help brief.

Can I save an idea without starting Gift Help?

Yes. Quick Capture saves a private idea on the iPhone for the person you choose. It does not contact an AI provider, create a questionnaire or use AI Credits.

Will new questionnaire answers replace my existing results?

No. Returned answers wait for your review, and you choose which fields to approve. Approved answers create a new profile version while the existing gift results remain pinned to their original context. You decide whether a future search should use the newer version.

Reminders

How early will I see a birthday?

Upcoming birthdays appear in Today, ordered by what is closest. The standard planning checkpoints are 30, 21, 14, 7 and 3 days before the date, with each checkpoint moving from planning toward last-minute options. The prompt also changes when you record a gift as selected, purchased, shipped, delivered or complete. That keeps an already-bought gift out of shopping mode.

My notification did not arrive. What should I check?

Open Settings and run Check my reminders. It inspects notification permission and the schedule stored on the iPhone, and it can send a test notification. Focus modes and iOS notification settings can still delay or hide an alert even when KINCLUTCH scheduled it correctly. For dates you cannot risk losing, use Export my data to keep a separate record.

Do reminders require Gift Help?

No. People, birthdays and local reminder planning do not depend on the AI research service. They remain available when Gift Help is paused, out of credits or temporarily unavailable. You decide separately whether an occasion needs research.

iPhone, widgets and Apple Watch

Does KINCLUTCH read Apple Calendar?

Only if you choose to use the optional Calendars setting. KINCLUTCH reads birthdays from the calendars you select and never adds, edits or deletes a calendar event. New people are shown for your approval and begin Unscoped, so a scan cannot quietly start reminders or Gift Help. If a calendar date conflicts with one you entered yourself, the app shows the conflict instead of overwriting your record.

What does the Home Screen widget show?

The widget publishes a local 45-day birthday timeline from the iPhone app. Small, medium, large and supported accessory layouts make the next dates glanceable without opening KINCLUTCH. Opening the app republishes the latest local snapshot for the widget. The full person profile, Gift Help result and purchase controls remain inside the app.

What appears on Apple Watch?

The read-only Watch companion shows up to eight upcoming birthdays and the days remaining, while supported complications can surface the nearest birthday on the watch face. Only the person’s name, relationship, occasion date and days remaining cross to the watch. Gift ideas, prices, profiles and private notes stay off the wrist. Planning, research and purchase-state actions remain on iPhone.

Does iCloud sync my KINCLUTCH data?

No. KINCLUTCH does not currently use iCloud as its data transport. The iPhone app publishes the limited local snapshots used by its own widget and paired Watch experience. Use the export and complete-backup tools when you want a portable copy under your control.

Can Gift Help plan occasions besides birthdays?

Yes. A gift brief can cover Christmas, Hanukkah, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, thank-yous, business recognition or a custom occasion. Birthdays are the occasions that currently drive the Today, widget and Watch countdown views. For another occasion, open Gift Help and set the moment, deadline, budget and constraints in the brief.

Gift Help

Can I choose how deep the research goes?

Yes. Essential provides fast, focused research for everyday gifts, Concierge adds deeper research and an independent review, and White Glove uses the highest allowance for unusually difficult or high-stakes briefs. The app shows the maximum AI Credit reservation for the selected depth before research starts. You can change the depth or stop before anything is spent.

Where do the directions come from?

KINCLUTCH sends a minimized brief to commercial AI providers, gathers current retailer evidence and runs a separate quality review before releasing three distinct directions. Each direction must explain why it fits, what evidence supports it, what could still go wrong and how to make the gift land. Results that do not clear the publication checks are withheld rather than dressed up as finished recommendations. KINCLUTCH is a research tool, not a retailer or automatic personal shopper.

What if the first directions miss?

Choose what missed, such as price, category, style, burden, personal fit or an item they already own. KINCLUTCH can refine the verified result set already saved for that search up to three times. Those cached refinements use no new AI research and cost no additional AI Credits. A genuinely new live search shows a fresh maximum before it starts.

What safety checks run before I see a result?

Current evidence is checked for unavailable and discontinued language, and an unsupported result is withheld. The review rejects demographic shortcuts and categories that cross the selected relationship boundary, with stricter safeguards for professional relationships. A retailer comparison remains labeled as a comparison instead of a verified listing. No automated check replaces your final review of fit, safety, stock, price and delivery.

What crosses the privacy boundary?

The KINCLUTCH service receives the request and stores the completed result so you can return to it. Before the AI brief is sent, the recipient name, contact information, account identifier and private notes are removed. The minimized brief can use age, relationship, selected profile details, budget, destination, deadline and exclusions. The privacy policy maps the complete Gift Help data flow.

Can it spend money or buy a gift?

No. You decide whether to start research and approve the maximum AI Credit charge first. KINCLUTCH returns directions and retailer evidence, but it cannot place an order or charge a retailer purchase. You make the final choice and complete any transaction directly with the retailer.

What happens if research fails?

A failed or withheld result is not charged. The service reserves against the ceiling you approved, then commits usage only after a result clears its publication checks. If the research cannot produce a releasable result, the reserved amount is released instead.

Can I ask the recipient instead?

Yes—create an expiring private link and choose Messages, a copied link, QR code or together mode. KINCLUTCH prepares the invitation, but you decide how and whether to send it, and every returned answer waits for your review. The preview shows what the recipient will see before the link is created. Invites for a child under 13 must go through a guardian or be completed together on your device.

Retailers and follow-through

How does the retailer handoff work?

A direction can show up to three verified merchant listings or, when no listing could be verified, clearly labeled searches at up to five retailers. KINCLUTCH strips common affiliate and tracking parameters, takes no affiliate payment, and shows a leaving-app warning before opening a destination. You verify the seller, total price, stock, shipping and returns, then complete checkout with the retailer. KINCLUTCH does not place the order.

Does KINCLUTCH track the package automatically?

No. You manually record selected, purchased, shipped, delivered and complete. Those states stop outdated shopping pressure and change the next prompt to delivery, presentation, the note or the final handoff. KINCLUTCH does not connect to a carrier or infer package movement.

How does gift history help next time?

When you record a chosen direction as purchased or later, it becomes part of that person’s gift history. A future candidate can be flagged as an exact or possible repeat based on its title. The warning is a guardrail, not a guarantee that every similar gift will be recognized.

Does KINCLUTCH learn how the gift actually landed?

After delivery, you can record whether the gift was loved, liked, fell flat, missed, was returned or was already owned. That outcome becomes an explicit signal in future research for the same person. A miss can rule out the same direction, while a genuine hit can carry more weight. Outcomes remain private and are not turned into a score for the relationship.

Subscriptions, credits and retailers

How do AI Credits work?

The app shows the maximum AI Credit charge before research begins. A completed result settles the measured usage without exceeding that approved ceiling. A failed or withheld result is not charged. AI Credits are units for KINCLUTCH research, not cash, store credit or payment toward a gift.

How does Invite a friend work?

Your account has a stable KINCLUTCH invite code that you can share through the iPhone share sheet. A friend receives a free search when the code is redeemed. You receive a free search only after that friend actually completes their first search, and the reward count is capped. Self-referral and repeated referral claims are refused.

How do I manage or cancel a subscription?

Apple manages subscriptions purchased through the App Store. On iPhone, open Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions to view, change or cancel KINCLUTCH. The Apple purchase sheet shows the current price, billing period and renewal terms before confirmation. Eligible refunds are also handled through Apple.

Does KINCLUTCH handle retailer returns?

No. Before buying, confirm the current price, availability, shipping, safety, fit and return terms with the retailer. The purchase and any return, exchange or refund are between you and that retailer.

Privacy and data

Can I see what I have actually spent on gifts?

Yes. Gifting spend totals only gifts you marked as bought and groups them by year and by person. It does not treat a research estimate or an unpurchased direction as real spending.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings can create birthday and gift-history spreadsheets, a printable record and a complete machine-readable backup. The complete export combines the records stored on your iPhone with connected account records returned by the service. Save the file somewhere you control because exported copies are outside KINCLUTCH once you share them.

What happens when I restore a backup?

KINCLUTCH reads the backup first and previews what can be added or enriched. Restore is deliberately add-only and cannot delete an existing person or overwrite an existing value. Nothing is written until you confirm the preview. If the file cannot be read, the app leaves the current data unchanged.

How do I delete one person?

Open People, choose the person and confirm deletion. The app clears that person’s local profile, reminder and gift records, then requests deletion of related server questionnaires and Gift Help jobs. Other people in KINCLUTCH are not removed.

How do I delete the account?

Open Settings, choose Delete account and confirm the warning. The app requests deletion of connected questionnaires, Gift Help jobs, feedback reports and entitlements, then clears local people, profiles and reminders. Deletion is designed to remove the operating account, not merely sign you out. Limited transaction, security or legal records may remain only where required for compliance or fraud prevention.

How do I submit a privacy question?

Open Settings and choose Report a problem, then select the closest privacy or data category. The report includes only what you type plus basic app context; it does not automatically attach people, profiles or private notes. Export my data and Delete account are separate self-service actions on the same Settings screen.
